History 1922-2000 (77 YEARS)
John Whalley started trading in 1923, our founder Mr. John W Whalley was a well known Rally Driver of the 20's and 30's who competed in many forms of Motor Sport.
In those years the Company specialised in most British Makes of car for Sales and Service but Ford was the mainstay.
From 1950 John R Whalley managed the Company maintaining our links with Motor Sport, competing on the RAC Rally on three occassions during the next few years. Our connections with Ford became more fragile and we took on the Fiat Franchise in 1965.
In 1970 our current Managing Director John M Whalley joined the Company and continued the link with Motor Sport. By 1982 we had joined forces with Lancia under the control of the Heron Corporation, who returned the Marque to Fiat in the Late 80's. Fiat continued the Marque until the recession forced the end of Lancia sales operations for cars in the UK in 1994.
As the dealer approved for converting Integrales from Left to Right hand drive, we had generated a niche in the market which has allowed us to survive as a Lancia Service Dealer to operating with full factory support. This has also given us the advantage of keeping our staff and experience over the years focused on the support of the Modern Lancia Cars.
In 1988 we obtained our own Group N 8valve Integrale for use in rallying, this car became our testbed for learning the finer points of the car and its character. Today we still rally this Integrale both for the love of the car and the Sport, it is still capable of holding its own against the modern Subaru's and Escorts, proving how advanced the car was 10 years ago.
Today we also build replica Lancia Stratos cars which are used both for fun and for demonstrations on various Race Circuits and International Events. Our continued involvement in motor sport has allowed us to keep up with technological developments and to be able to offer to share our knowledge and expertise to support our customers and their cars.
